ZeList

Project description

General presentation:

Zelist is a ranking instrument that creates  objective tops of the Romanian blogs, following the criteria of the so-called link love (according to which a blog will be better ranked if it is present in the blogrolls of other blogs, highly ranked through the same method).
The system is based on an algorithm similar to that which is used by Google when setting the PR ranking of websites according to the authority of sites that are linking to them. This system  enables a monitoring of the weekly evolution, enables finding other blogs that are included on the same blogrolls, and so on.
The structure of the Zelist platform includes a homepage that shows the blog posts that have received  the most comments and given track backs from the former day, and a top of the first ten bloggers, a selection of the most commented posts, statistics calculated for the past 24 hours, seven days and last month for blogs, posts and comments, a top of last month`s most popular brands, depending on how many times they were mentioned in posts, and the links to the last ten blogs added.
The section Ze Top displays the weekly top chart of blogs.  Ze Top can, as well, display according to tags or information searched.
The Ze Mirror section includes both a top chart, reactualized every 24 hours, as well as popular brands` top chart based on the number of Romanian blogs that those brands were mentioned in during the past days. The brands are structured in eight categories: business, culture, entertainment, Internet, lifestyle, politics, sports and technologies, but can, just as well, be visualized in a top chart of all brands.

Objectives:

The main objective was to build up a tool focused on the Romanian blogosphere, that would supply relevant information about its evolution, information that would result from the analysis of as many blogs as possible.

Solution:

The strategy aimed at coming up with cutting edge design that would be easily understood and used and  that would highlight the information supplied by the system. Also, the goal was to confer transparency to the way the data is calculated and displayed and to integrate an increasingly large number of blogs so that the results would be as relevant as possible.
Nonetheless, suggestions from users were constantly taken into account during the making of the project.
